No Preventive Maintenance for You!

A tree in my yard was hit by lightning last summer. It subsequently died.

I confirmed with my insurance agent this morning that removal of the dead tree is not covered under my policy. That's maintenance.

However, if the tree falls and hits my house, I am covered. That's a claim.

Shall I wait?

  1. It's amazing to me that they can't seem to help out with tree removal, yet will pay for the ticket price of a damage claim.

Ahh! Lawyers, insurance companies, and politcians! The bane of our existance.

  2. If it weren't for the fact that it might fall on a neighbor's house or fall the other way and hit a car traveling on the dirt road on the other side of the drainage ditch, I'd say let the thing fall when it will.

They'd probably get out of paying for the damage by saying I was negligent. I say the damage was an act of God.

So now I have to come up with the full cost of dead tree removal.

    Grrrrrrr.

  3. I already told you my one insurance anecdote, didn't I? Think I did.

  4. You might have, but if so, I don't remember. It might surprise you to know that I haven't actually memorized all the details of your life. Ha! (I actually have what is sometimes quite a scary capacity for remembering minutiae, although that seems to be tapering off with age...)

    Run it by me again.
